RAIN...RAIN....RAIN....

RAIN DANCE
Rain, Varsha, brishti, baarish, barsaat, paoos,...they all mean the "beautiful" rain. Rain is an integral part of our life. Without rain the land becomes arid, dry and eventually a desert.
The smell of the earth after the first few drops of rain fall, is so nice, that  I actually do not have the words to describe the smell.
Am I talking about myself? Oh yes, I suddenly realised that I am talking about Varsha...that is me!!
I learnt quite late in life that one must blow one's own trumpet, because if I do not blow it myself, then who will volunteer to blow MY trumpet?
By the time I learnt this lesson, I was out of the Bank where I worked. I always thought that my performance which was quite clearly spelt out in my reports would be seen and appreciated by those that mattered. I was so very wrong. Well never mind, nothing was lost except my naivety. I did learn my lesson, yet never put it to practice until now.
So here am I, writing my thoughts. I don't think I can write more about Varsha, so we go off the track and move on to other things.
Rains or monsoons of Mumbai are simply magnificent. The thunder and dark looming clouds, the gust of wind and beautiful skyline where the Sun's rays are trying to come out from behind the clouds are simply beautiful.

CLOUDS....DARK BEAUTIFUL CLOUDS!

Monsoons in Delhi are never that pretty. Even in Kolkata the strong breeze that accompanies the rain is beautiful. The swaying coconut trees and dark clouds with the pitter patter of rain is lovely. Reminds me of a lovely Bangla song "Brishti pode tapur tupur, tapur tupur"
Another eternally beautiful song is "Rimjhim gire sawan, sulag sulag jaaye man",from the movie Manzil. Amitabh Bachchan and Moushumi Chatterji at Marine Drive! Beautiful! Aha Rimjhim ke ye pyaare pyaare geet liye.....
Rains do play havoc and bring floods. They destroy crops and ruin places near banks of rivers. A cloudburst also wrecks a lot of places. Yet rains are necessary.
I can only love the rains and love the sky. Lightening, thunder and the pitter patter of rain are like music to my ears.

The flooding of roads, the water logging and gushing water all take a back seat when I look up at the sky.
Umbrellas, those beautiful dainty little shelters from the rains are also so beautiful. I love collecting umbrellas.
I cannot resist buying them. It is another matter that there are very few things which I can actually resist buying!

WATER BODY
Now why the thought of rain...do you wonder? Summer is almost upon us, in Delhi. Dry, dusty, and brown! The hot winds, called "loo", wll soon descend upon us. The greenery of the trees and beautiful colours of the winter flowers will soon turn brown. Delhi is always so short of water and the Yamuna is dry too! One has to look forward to the rains. The thought is enough to tide over the dry, dusty season of summer of Delhi!
Monsoon, the dark looming clouds, the earthy smell after the first drops of the rain and the beautiful refrains of Megh Malhar...ahaa! Absolutely beautiful and soothing!
So much like the person who is named after the rain!!  ..that is me!!!!!

A very beautiful description of the rain and the lovely description "Umbrellas, those beautiful dainty little shelters from the rains " is so wonderful too. And as far as your work in the bank goes - you were very much the best of the lot - I can vouch for that ha ha! The description of the rains - VARSHA - is simple and crystalline in its purity. Well written blog my dear friend! I bet Triloki echoes my sentiments!
