woman! be strong

I wander through the world like a lost soul.
I look for lost memories, I look high and low,
What am I looking for in the ruins of the world?
Helen of Troy's face could never have been worth the number of dead that were left behind.
Venus de milo had her lovely arms wrenched to spoil her perfect beauty?
Did Sita's disgrace make us feel very ashamed of our heritage?
Why did Draupadi have 5 husbands when everyone else had one?
What was the fault of Desdemona, just that she was very beautiful?
Why was Cleopatra branded as a woman of easy virtue?
Why have some women been put on a pedestal and asked to stay there?
Why are they told to remain there and feel elated, not look upon human failings for what they are...cheating?
It is a man's world,

They write history, therefore it is HIS STORY,
They decide... they have brute power.
The tenderness, freshness, understanding that a woman has, is misused.
She is used, and discarded. She is abused and asked to keep her peace.
Woman, you are called all kind of names if you raise your voice,
Your finger is broken if you lift your finger,
Your spirit is broken if you show your happiness, your success,

Woman, be brave, you are the fountain of hope, cheer, happiness,
Woman live, because you provide solace to many,
Woman be strong don't let your spirit die,
Whatever the world may do to you,
Rise above it all like a phoenix who rises from its ashes,
Because at the end of it all, it is you who matters the most to your own self.
You do not need a helping hand, you are the pivot around which your world revolves.
It is your world.
Shield yourself, build your cocoon, don't give anyone the power to destroy you.
Or else they will brand you just like Helen, Venus, Cleopatra, Desdemona, Sita and Draupadi!

Well written Varsha! Good subject, vibrant ideas. I strongly believe that a woman is not a weaker sex. In fact, she is the stronger of the two. Brute power is only brute power applicable only in brutal societies. Real power is the power of emotiona which even corporate world recognises today by way of frequently mentioned EQ. A female foetus is stronger in pre-natal stage. A girl child is physically stronger in post-natal stage. A woman bears the burden of her fertility all her life, bears children, rears them and still usually lives longer than men. Even in old age, a widow is known to handle her widowhood better than a widower who cannot last too long after the wife passes away. Men across the civilisations have tried to keep the woman suppressed and enslaved by brute power because of their innate fear of losing ground to her if they let go of their brute power.

Dear Varsha - you wrote "What am I looking for in the ruins of the world?"
And at the outset I may say that the world is still not in ruins - because women may ruin men as it is said - but they will never allow the world to fall into ruin!
As for why Draupadi had 5 husbands when everyone else had one .... I have no Idea .. must have been because she was more than a handful ha ha
And again as for It being a man's world,I beg to differ. It is definitely a woman's world today.
It is unrealistic to say that The tenderness, freshness, understanding of s woman is misused - in fact it spurs men to higher levels! Conversely it may be actually seen that these days women use men's so called brute strength to good purpose - building soaring towers and incredible bridges to span the continents. The past is long gone into yesterday's sevn thousand years, dear Vartsha - and one has to throw off the garments of the past and removing the opaque glasses, see the turnaround of women today.
Women are are the fountain of hope, cheer, happiness, and the pivot around which every humans world revolves, is rightly said by you.
BUT building a cocoon around oneself by a woman is contradictory - and 'twould lead to the integration of cohesive society and many colored and beautiful life as we know it.
And as for branding women with comparisons with some who were not so memorable. it is seen today that comparisons with evil men is more common - and it is transgender - say - He/She is a Hitler in the house / workplace ha ha.
A thought provoking blog Varsha, but perhaps too steeped in ancient gender inequality and since it points a finger at the masculine gender - I feel that it loses its focus somewhere and degenerate a bit into a war of words - remember the movie - The Battle of the Roses ...

I can understand your anguish as a woman but it is not as bad as you have painted it out to be.

I see hope in the horizon. Our grandchildren (hopefully) will grow up seeing their mothers treated fairly. (PS Horizon: A line in the distance which recedes as you approach it.)
